"Just a second," your wife said when the phone rang, "I'd better get that."

"Just let it go to the machine," you said, "our reservations are in half an hour."

"Let me just see who it is, what if it's the sitter...Hello. David," she said, suddenly smiling at hearing her part time lover's voice. "What, tonight? You're in town? No, no, I don't have any plans," you heard her say as looked over at you sitting on the couch, "I'd love to have dinner...half an hour?"

She set the phone down, looked again at you. "David's in town," she said simply, "you'd better cancel the reservations, he's picking me up in half an hour."
